An idyllic setting 2 hours from Paris

A charming guest house

Just two hours from Paris via the A6, or the national highway for those who prefer to take their time discovering the many châteaux and vineyards that line the road as far as Puisaye Forterre (Colette country), the lucky traveller will arrive at Taingy. After rounding the church of Saint Martin (15th-century flamboyant Gothic portal), you'll take a stony path nicely encircled by a tunnel of greenery that leads to the Manoir de la Croix de Saint Louis where your hosts will be delighted to welcome you.

Our guest house, built in 1830 on the site of a former convent (Couvent de la Croix Saint Louis), bears the imprint of a French bourgeois family who, since the reign of Charles X, have played a key role in local life. Writers, artists and politicians have often stayed here.

An exceptional experience, from June 15 to 17. We were warmly welcomed by Gérard and Pascal and their two adorable dogs, Figaro and Bobby. The decor is sumptuous and tastefully appointed. The candlelit dinner is exceptional. The attention and quality of the service are of a rare finesse. We can only recommend this memorable address. Finally, the region is magnificent and full of remarkable places.Mickaël and Francesco
Magnificent property, good French cuisine, friendly hosts, not to mention a selection of wines from independent winemakers.

If you want to experience true French arrogance and the owner's lack of overview, then this is the place for you :-)Really nice rooms and surroundings (a little deserted perhaps) but really pleasant and nicely furnished. The place is run by the owner, assisted by two ladies who come every morning to prepare breakfast and tidy the rooms. They are really nice, but there is clearly a distance between the owner and (the servants) and we also had this feeling after the first day. Whether it's because we don't speak French - or that we'd offended the owner in some way, that's not the case...known.It appears from the website that there's a restaurant, etc. But it's really the owner who goes into his own kitchen and no real information about what you can order - and the feeling that you'd better not want anything! However, it has to be said that the owner found us and ordered a restaurant that evening.Such a delicious place - but it's a bed and breakfast, not a hotel.

I stayed at this charming hotel for our friend's wedding nearby. A typically French experience, beautiful interiors. Be sure to book your dinner with Gérard. He is quite a chef and host, he even offered to drop us off at the wedding venue instead of taking a taxi/drive. A wonderful time and I highly recommend him.

Two hosts of rare elegance and kindness, with a touch of humor. The house is a reflection of them. The decor is refined and incredibly well done, with family souvenirs, objects found here and elsewhere, armchairs upholstered in designer fabrics, and sofas we'd never want to leave. Gérard took us on a tour of the Manoir, telling us the history of each room.novelists, actors, politicians and art world personalities have stayed here.there's a soul in this house.we literally fell under the spell of our hosts and above all of the place.it's a feast for the eyes, all the objects are beautiful, the choice of furniture, the curtains ... ahhhh the curtains, our favorite. Falling silk taffetas from Frey, Fendi, you name it! Breakfast is served in a delightful glassed-in room in the garden that could be called "l'orangerie" (the orangery). Silverware, porcelain from the great houses... it's good and beautiful and very copious. For dinner, on order, it's also served in the "orangerie", with candles for a romantic touch. And the icing on the cake is that Gérard is a fine cook! Several pretty outdoor lounges are available for reading or napping under a tree. The outdoor swimming pool is superb and at 29 degrees, with outdoor furniture for relaxing in the sun or under the parasols. As you can see, we fell in love with the place. Thanks also to Pascal for his kindness, smile and humor. You can even play a game of badminton with Pascal, as there's a court in the garden. We'll be back for sure, and several times a year.thank you a thousand times over for this discoveryBravo 10/10Catherine and Dominique

We had a superb weekend. The location is perfect for visiting the Château de Guedelon and Vézelay.the place is very quiet, the château is magnificent and superbly decorated and maintained.table d'hôte available. We dined on a superb boeuf bourguignon. In short, everything was perfect, and I'd come back again very soon. Many thanks to our host Gérard, who made us feel so welcome!

I'd like to thank this wonderful duo for welcoming me to this incredible setting.the exterior is beautiful and invites you to relax, in the sun by the pool for example.the interior of the manor is breathtaking, with every room thoughtfully and precisely decorated, encouraging you to linger over the smallest details. Gérard took the time to give me a guided tour to share the details of this universe: a clever blend of family memories and a definite taste for the French art of living. Gérard took the time to take me on a guided tour to share details of this universe: a skilful blend of family memories and a definite taste for the French art of living. I therefore recommend a visit to this manor house to add beautiful images to your own catalog of life.

Yonne and Burgundy

Something for everyone

The Manoir is located in the heart of a valley in the village of Taingy (commune of Hauts de Forterre 89560), surrounded by valleys cultivated with vines and wheat. Dirt paths cross here and there, allowing walkers to stroll and admire the landscape. It's not uncommon to spot deer or other animals coming out of the nearby forest to find food in the fields.

There are many cultural sites to discover in the vicinity of the Manoir, including : The castle Medieval Guédelon built by master craftsmen using the machinery and tools of the Middle Ages. The house of Colette where she spent her childhood, as well as the museum dedicated to her. The castle of Saint Fargeau princely residence of the Grande Mademoiselle first cousin of Louis XIV. The village of Toucy with its famous Market (ranked sixth in France). The vineyards of Chablis, d'Irancyof Coulanges la Vineuse and Saint Bris are just a stone's throw from the Manoir.

For horse lovers, the Pesteau equestrian farm is 5 KM from the Manoir. For toddlers, the nearby Moulin de Vanneau farm is an ideal stop-off point.
